Supervised by 3 adult sons and daughters-in-law, this position requires a patient and kind-hearted caretaker and personal assistant to a retired gentleman. The applicant can expect many hours of sitting by the lake in conversation with our dad.  Job duties include first and foremost managing dad's safety by accompanying dad with his walker around the house and grounds. It also includes overseeing a safe, organized, and clean home environment. This will include light housekeeping, meal preparation,  and possibly driving to appointments.

Communication with family and other care providers is extremely important to coordinate schedule which includes daily management and administration of medications.  The applicant must possess first aid skills to render wound care or other first-aid basics when necessary. Dad may require assistance in the shower, bathroom, and dressing.

Due to the gradual onset of dementia, moods, and behavior are sometimes unpredictable and require sensitivity. He is accustomed to independence at an assisted living facility but due to recent lockdown conditions, we are transitioning him home. Dad is never to be left alone at home or unsupervised for great lengths.

Qualifications and Requirements

• physical strength and energy to safely assist Dad into seated and sleeping positions on an ongoing basis
• valid ID driver’s license and operational vehicle for 30-minute commute from Sandpoint
• competence with meal preparation
• trustworthiness
• excellent communication skills

Preferred Skills

• CPR certification

Possible shifts include:
Monday-Friday: 8 am to 4 pm
Monday-Friday 8-12 or 12 -4
Occasional evenings
