Support Staff needed for a disabled 29 year old young man. This position is an excellent opportunity for someone seeking a Internship for Special Education, Social Work, Counseling, or Nursing Degree and for those who have experience in working with persons with disabilities. The client is a pleasant young man who is proficient in verbal communication and vocabulary. He has TBI and left side paralysis from a subsequent stroke, resulting in difficulty with cognitive reasoning/auditory processing. Despite his challenges, he is independently mobile and motivated to improve his life and use his skills. He is very knowledgeable in computer repair and programming, and loves video gaming!
Employment Type: A successful candidate will demonstrate good communication skills, positive attitude, patience, passion, and experience in working with individuals who have special needs. Job duties include, but not limited to: performing and teaching daily living skills, i.e., cooking, cleaning, laundry, shopping, appointments, scheduling, healthy food options, assist with client PT/OT therapy/follow through, support/transport client to community outings, appointments, etc., assist with medication management, prompt client to shower and do self care (client is self sufficient, needs prompts/reminders). The candidate should have a working knowledge of behavior intervention techniques and how to respond appropriately in Crisis situations. A valid drivers license, CPR, and car insurance is required.
Pay: $10 - $13 per hour depending type of shift, ie, day/night/sleeping. Shift hours are usually 12 hours, but may vary at times depending on client need.
