Our parent cooperative school is a wonderful place to work, and we’re currently looking for an experienced Early Childhood Educator!

Selkirk School offers the opportunity to teach in a unique environment: with small classes, a caring staff and supportive parents, our school’s goal is to educate the whole child.

• Provide an age-appropriate curriculum and educational program that is centered on creative, interactive, nature, and play-based learning.
• Develop schedules and routines to ensure children have enough physical activity, rest, and playtime.
• Assist students with meal times, hand washing, bathroom visits, and dressing/undressing for outside time.
• Assist with inside clean-up of classrooms and playground throughout the school day.
• Keep records of students’ progress, routines, and interests. Keep parents informed about the class overall and about their child’s development.
• Preparation necessary for each day and for the start of school each year, including: interviewing prospective families, reaching out to welcome families prior to the school year starting, and preparing classroom.
• Prepare for and set a minimum of two parent/teacher conferences per school year.
• Collaborate with other teachers and staff to meet the needs of all students at the Selkirk School.
• Attend professional meetings, educational conferences, and teacher training workshops in order to maintain and improve professional competence.
• Participate in activities outside of the school day (e.g. board meetings, staff meetings, fundraisers, planning, classroom organization).

Qualified candidates will be able to demonstrate:
• Knowledge of the developing skills of the whole child.
• Ability to work as part of a team.
• Understanding of and ability to assess developing skills that include academic, communicative, motor, and social skills.
• Understanding of the importance of play in a child's development, and of parents in the educational process of the child.
• Cultural awareness and sensitivity.
• Progressive methods of handling challenging behavior.

• Bachelors degree or equivalent experience required. Preference for major in Early Childhood Education or Child Development.
• 5+ years of previous teaching experience required; preference will be given to candidates holding a valid Early Childhood Education Certificate.
• Register with Idaho STARS and participate in the professional development system.
• Meet all training and certification requirements for child care licensing.
• Maintain current Infant/Child & Adult CPR and First Aid.
• Pass an enhanced criminal background check including fingerprinting, as required by the State of Idaho.

Must have the physical abilities to perform the following job duties:
• hear the conversational voice with or without a hearing aid
• see and read newsprint with or without corrective lenses
• speak and be understood under normal circumstances
• lift and carry children and other items weighing up to 50 pounds
• use arms, hands, legs, and feet with or without corrective devices to accomplish the job, including evacuation of the building during emergencies
